Monika Rinck‘s Lichtenberg Lectures on Poetry, which she gave in Göttingen in January 2019, are called Effective Fictions. Now, these lectures, which she wrote during her stay at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles, are published in a revised form by Wallstein Verlag.
Monika Rinck and Daniela Seel, who herself is a poet and Rinck's editor at the poetry publisher kookbooks, will discuss the book's themes in greater depth. The texts deal with transitions in various manifestations: they are about doors, thresholds and boundaries between fiction and non-fiction, between language art and language, between genres, countries and people, between the material and its application.
Along her own lyrical texts and some poems by Christa Reinig, Julian Talamantez Brolaski, Ann Cotten, Wendy Trevino and Elke Erb, Monika Rinck examines what happens when reality is used as material for poetry. The journey leads to borders, to forests beyond plantations, to public libraries and to the very real field of action of strong fictions.
Monika Rinck, born 1969 in Zweibrücken, today lives in Berlin as a poet and essayist. She studied Religious Studies, German Studies, and General and Comparative Literature in Bochum, Berlin, and at Yale University. Together with Orsolya Kalász, Rinck translates from Hungarian, she cooperates with musicians and composers and intermittently teaches at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. In 2017, she curated the festival POETICA in Cologne.
In spring 2012, Rinck's poetry book HONIGPROTOKOLLE (Honey Protocolls) was published by kookbooks and was awarded the Huchel Prize.
Monika Rinck is a member of the P.E.N. Club, the Lyrikknappschaft Schöneberg, the Akademie der Künste Berlin and of the Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung. Monika Rinck received the Kleist Prize in 2015 and the Ernst Jandl Prize in 2017. In 2018, Monika Rinck spent three months in Los Angeles as a Villa Aurora fellow.
