Shirin Sabahi is a visual artist and filmmaker who lives and works in Berlin. Her projects engage with the built space, tracing the production and interpretation of artefacts and places over time. Art and architectural legacies appear in Shirin Sabahi’s projects as stand-ins for larger historical, economic, and urban developments. Her installations and exhibitions combine appropriated and newly-produced photographic, filmic, and sculptural, and spatial materials.

At Villa Aurora, and in preparation for a new project, Shirin Sabahi will explore the architectural style of storefronts in Los Angeles between the 1940s and 1970s. Using existing buildings and photographic archives, she will look at this expressive architecture through a sculptural prism.

Shirin Sabahi is Villa Aurora Fellow of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
