Harry Hachmeister | Visual Art

Harry Hachmeister, born in Leipzig, studied artistic photography with Prof. Timm Rautert at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig from 1999 to 2007. In his interdisciplinary works, which range from photography, drawing and painting to ceramics, he deals with questions of identity, bodies and their attributions.
In Los Angeles, Harry Hachmeister will focus on the works of three deceased personalities from California who made their bodies visible through writing (Lou Sullivan) and through photography (Loren Rex Cameron, Laura Aguilar). Hachmeister’s own trans background and his interest in non-normative bodies play an important role here. The result will be a new photographic series that takes a visual approach to the topic of body politics.
Harry Hachmeister is Villa Aurora Fellow of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
