Since 1988 Sonntag’s works have been shown on exhibitions and he has received numerous stipends for fine arts, sound art and composition. Equally, he won awards in various fields, such as art history, composition, sound art or contemporary music improvisation. His work encompasses art, science, and technology, of which he believes “there is no in between.” He experiments with sound, light and image, developing non-traditional means to experience the natural world. His experiments attempt to render space beyond the projection of the visual, incorporating a psycho-acoustic medium to produce an environment. During his stay at Villa Aurora, Sonntag plans to work on a video/sound composition, that refers directly to the Villa by using the domestic organ as acoustic basis. Also, Sonntag wants to get on with his large-scale project “C-plexus solaris”, which deals with the approaching geomagnetic storm in 2012/13 and the development of electronic media in the 19th century by attempting to understand northern lights in laboratories.
