Listening to Ballona in the natural history museum of the future. Sound installation by Daniel Rothman
2022 Villa Aurora Fellow Carola Bauckholt invites Los Angeles-based composer Daniel Rothman to Berlin for the Time to Listen festival. Visitors to Daniel Rothman’s installation have to sit on a bicycle themselves to power the sound system, which plunges them into a bioacoustic refuge in California, with the pitch of the sound modulated by the speed at which they pedal.
The sound installation is part of the Time to Listen festival exhibition.
In seven sound installations, international artists tell about their perception of the ecological crisis, make destruction and climate change audible, create memory spaces, position themselves or translate the language of science into sounds that can be experienced by the senses, and thereby create knowledge spaces in which we can expand our awareness and our options for action.
Villa Aurora & Thomas Mann House is cooperation partner for the installation by Daniel Rothman.
