News |Call for applications: Villa Aurora Artists' Grants 2026
Berlin/Los Angeles, December 11, 2024 – In 2026, the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles will once again welcome artists from Germany. This historic and inspiring location offers fellows the opportunity to work on their projects for three months while engaging in vibrant cultural exchange with other creatives. Applications are open until February 27, 2025.
A Unique Haven for Artistic Inspiration
The Villa Aurora, once the exile home of Lion and Marta Feuchtwanger, is now a prestigious artist residency. Since its establishment in 1995, more than 450 fellows have lived and worked there. The Villa combines the rich legacy of German exile history with California’s dynamic cultural landscape, creating an ideal environment for creativity.
Lion Feuchtwanger, one of the most influential authors of the 20th century, lived in exile at the Villa with his wife Marta. His novels, including Success, The Oppermanns, and Exile, are celebrated as masterpieces of German-Jewish literature. Marta Feuchtwanger was not only his critical editor but also a passionate activist and salonnière who opened their home to countless exiles fleeing persecution.
