Jeewi Lee | Visual Art
Jeewi Lee, born in South Korea, has lived and worked in Berlin since 2008. Lee studied Fine Arts and Art in Context at UDK Berlin and Hunter College in NYC. In her site-specific spatial installations, sculptures and picture series, she mainly deals with traces by thematizing the past, presence and absence. The trace bears witness to time and at the same time reflects its history
and its own production process. In her installations and paintings, the trace exists as a remnant of the past, a visual allegory for lived experience, place, and memory.
Jeewi Lee will explore the history of the diaspora – of migrants who leave their homeland in search of a new home and a better future, and the consequences of this decision. In particular, she wants to explore the history of Korean Americans by interviewing Koreans with a migration background in
the L.A. region and artistically engaging with the everyday objects they brought from their home country.
