Haegue Yang is a visual artist currently living and working in Seoul and Berlin. She combines domestic and industrial materials with sensory effects such as light and sound, to render them into installations and performative abstractions. Her works are simultaneously conceptual and sensorial, ambivalent yet revelatory, operating in the realms of politics, history, and culture.
Yang’s recent solo exhibitions have been presented at numerous prominent institutions, such as Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2016), Serralves Museum, Porto, Portugal (2016), Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany (2016), Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China (2015), Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul, South Korea (2015), Bergen Kunsthall, Bergen, Norway (2013), Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Glasgow, Scotland (2013), the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Strasbourg, France (2013), Haus der Kunst, Munich, Germany (2012), Tate Modern Tanks, London, England (2012), Kunsthaus Bregenz, Bregenz, Austria (2011), the New Museum, New York, USA (2010), the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, USA (2009), and the Korean Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale, Italy (2009).
