Tin Tin Win | Feuchtwanger Fellow

Tin Tin Win, born 1958 in Yenangyaung, Myanmar (Burma), began writing short stories during her medical studies in Mandalay. After obtaining her degree, she became a writer. She has published 21 volumes of short stories and novels, including numerous bestsellers, five of which were filmed.

In 1991, Tin Tin Win moved to the capital Yangon (Rangoon) and began self- publishing her novels in 1994. In her books, Win describes the changing role of women in Burmese society which made her one of the most criticized authors in her country.

The writer is also co-founder of an orphanage for HIV-positive children and a member of the HIV/AIDS Media Initiative and Yadana Metta Foundation.
