Kunle Ajibade | Feuchtwanger Fellow
Kunle Ajibade was released from a Nigerian prison on 20 July 1998 after he was sentenced to life imprisonment in July 1995 by the regime of General Sani Abacha. Ajibade had published an article in the magazine The News, and was accused of complicity in treason.
He is editor-in-chief of the publications: The News, Tempo and P.M. News in Lagos. His book Writers Speaking to Hard Times is a collection of interviews with seventy old and young Nigerian writers over a period of ten years. His published works also include his prison diaries, Jailed for Life: A Reporter’s Prison Notes. Ajibade is an honorary member of British PEN.
