Achim Mohné was born in 1964 and studied photography at the University of Essen and pursued post-graduate studies in media at the Kunsthochschule für Medien in Cologne. Since 1998 he has worked as an independent artist in the area of new media. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, happenings, and projects, working with video installations, public interventions, computer-based communication, and surveillance technology. Mohné has received scholarships to work at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles, the Kunststiftung NRW in Düsseldorf, and the Center for Land Use Interpretation in Los Angeles, and has taught at the Akademie Münster as well as at Indiana University, among other institutions. In 2007 he founded REMOTEWORDS with Uta Kopp - a long-term artistic project that disseminates communications installed on roofs worldwide through virtual globes such as Google Earth. The messages are permanently applied to the roofs in the form of capital letters. The location and the message conceptually represent a semantic unit. To date, 18 rooftops of exhibition spaces, museums, libraries and other cultural institutions display their very own statement, which has been developed together with directors, scientists, artists and curators. Tanja Dückers, Siegfried Zielinski, Klaus Staeck, Niq Mhlongo and others developed messages for institutions like Art Academy Berlin (UdK & AdK), Kunstraum Sylt, Kumu Museum Tallinn, Zeche Lohberg, Neuer Aachener Kunstverein etc.
