Michael Wertmueller composed music for Christoph Schlingensief, Theater Cologne, Schauspiel Stuttgart, and the Schauspielhaus Zurich. As a drummer, Wertmueller was a member of the Berner Sinfonieorchester, guest performer at the Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam and various chamber music ensembles. He also played music for numerous radio recordings, world premieres and solo concerts. In the 1990s, he joined the band Alboth! and since 2004 has been working with the Trio Full Blast (with Peter Brötzmann and Marino Pliakas). Wertmueller has played at hundreds of concerts, events. and festivals in Europe and throughout the world. He has collaborated with artists including: John Cale, Bill Laswell, Bilxa Bargeld, Jim O ́Rourke, Chicago Tentet, Caspar Broetzmann und Mouse on Mars.
He has been a guest lecturer at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin since 2005; the Academy of Arts and UdK, Berlin.
