Join the Goethe-Institut San Francisco for a special listening session and conversation with Berlin-based journalist and 2024 Thomas Mann House Fellow Aida Baghernejad and Oakland-based journalist Pendarvis Harshaw as they explore pop culture and politics, hip-hop and the prison system, the recent and upcoming elections, and the impact their urban contexts have had on their unique paths and journalistic voices.

Aida Baghernejad is a journalist who studied media studies in Berlin, Barcelona, and London. Her work focuses on how cultural products such as music, film, and social media content influence the socio-political state of the world. In addition to numerous contributions for Die Zeit, Der Tagesspiegel, Missy Magazine, and others, she also co-hosts the podcast 55 Voices for Democracy, a collaboration between the Thomas Mann House, the Goethe-Institut, dublab radio, and the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Pendarvis Harshaw is an award-winning journalist from Oakland who writes about prisons, politics, hip-hop and all things impacting his Northern Californian community.
