Hans-Christian Schink studied photography from 1986-1991 at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig with Joachim Jansong. From 1991-1993, he was master student at the University of Leipzig. He has received numerous grants and fellowships including the Stiftung Kulturfonds for the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf in 1997, and the Else-Heiliger-Fond der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in 2008. He was a fellow of the Villa Aurora, Pacific Palisades in 2002. His awards include Deutschen Fotobuchpreis 2004 for Verkehrsprojekte in the category photography books and the international REAL Photography Award which is endowed with 50,000 Euros. Schink lives in Berlin and Leipzig.

Schink photographs “special landscapes at the intersection of human endeavor and natural conditions. It is this human interest, which constitutes the idea of “landscape” by separating it from the surrounding territory,” writes Kai Uwe Schierz.
